Schwetzingen Palace Gardens
Mom and Dad arrived at the Frankfurt airport at 6:20am and Chris picked them up and brought them home. The big kids were already at school but the little boys and I greeted them outside as they drove up. We toured the house, (my dad taking pictures of course), ate muffins and tucked Grandma and Grandpa in for a three hour nap to help them adjust to the new time zone.
Ryan, Katie, Emily and Megan had a half day and were off the bus by 11:30 anxious for Grandma and Grandpa to wake up. At 12:30 we finally knocked on their door and gently woke them up… as gently as six excited kids could.
Within an hour we were out the door and on our way to the Schwetzingen Palace Gardens. It’s only 15 minutes away but we’d never been there and thought it was the perfect thing to do for their first afternoon. It was a gorgeous day. We paid our entrance fee to get into the gardens and walked and walked and walked. The grounds are impressively large and well manicured. It was a lot of fun... the perfect place to walk with Grandma and Grandpa and get reacquainted.
I just loved all the arched trees…
Further into the grounds we found a Mosque, and wandered around it for awhile. Really interesting architecture.
After a few hours we made our way back to the palace and then walked back to the van. Chris met us at home for Tortilla Guacamole Soup and then a walk around our neighborhood fields.
The kids were so excited to have Grandpa and his questions back they just wouldn’t leave him alone. So fun to have them actually here in our house!
