Tennessee Trip - The Smoky Mountains
The Christoffersons were nice enough to drop us off at the airport where we picked up our rental car - which was a red Dodge Charger. Kind of fun to drive in for just the two of us. We picked up some lunch at a little local place and then headed into the Smoky Mountains.
Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
I can’t remember exactly which trails we hiked - I think one of them was the Alum Cave Trailhead - but I do remember having great talks as we hiked. Something about the beautiful green plants, warm air, sounds of distant birds and the nearby creek that make the outdoors my happy place… especially being there with just Chris.
Sunset over the Smoky Mountains
Brace yourself for too many sunset pictures. After our hikes we drove up to the top of one of the mountains and walked up a trail giving us gorgeous views of the Smoky Mountains at dusk. Love seeing all the different colored layers of hills below the colored sky. I just kept taking the same picture over and over.
After watching the sun set we headed to Pigeon Forge and found a great German restaurant for dinner. Nice to sit down and enjoy great food. We stayed at a brand new and modern Marriott in Pigeon Forge. So fun.
Crockett’s Breakfast Camp
We had breakfast at Crockett’s Breakfast Camp. It was surprisingly big and had fun cabin and outdoorsy decor and a huge newspaper menu. Loved our food.
Hike to a Waterfall
This hike was pretty and led to such a cool waterfall. Neat to discover a little cemetery down the pathway a bit.
Even though we had already checked out, we headed back to our hotel and hung out at the pool for an hour or so until we drive back to the airport to catch out flight home. Such a great weekend. Fun to have three different parts to our trip… a day in Nashville, BYU game in Knoxville, and hiking in the Smoky Mountains.
