Melbourne - Brighton bathing boxes

As soon as I learned about the Brighton Bathing Boxes I knew we had to come see them… 93 brightly painted beach huts on Dendy Street Beach in the City of Bayside. Adorable!

The bathing boxes were built as changing rooms to maintain the modesty of bathers. The first was built as early as 1860 - but most were built between 1907 and 1933 and have been refurbished and repainted several times over. They do not have water or electricity connections but are used to store beach equipment and for gatherings of family and friends. We were able to peek in a few that were open to see tables, chairs, shelves with towels and everything needed for a day at the beach.

“Seen as a life style investment, limited supply and high demand has driven prices up from $58,000 in 2000 to over $400,000 now.” Most boxes are passed down from one generation to the next.

So fun to walk along the beach and pick our favorite one!

Love these boys! And love my man.

Love this darling koala bear painting!

Beautiful views of the ski and the city of Melbourne on our walk back. What a fun evening excursion.
