France Trip - First Night in Paris

Musée d’Orsay

We found our little 3 bedroom Parisan apartment, dropped off our bags and then hit the metro straight for the Musée d’Orsay. The weather was lovely and walking through Paris streets is always a complete joy. The Museum used to be a train station but now houses French art of the 1800s and early 1900’s and it’s definitely one of my favorites. It contains the best general collection anywhere of Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Gauguin.

Seeing the Louvre through the clock and across the Seine.

We headed straight for the top floor and enjoyed looking through the rooms of art and finding our favorites. The huge outdoor clock is always fun too. I had Katie and Taylor stand in front for a few silhouette pics.

Walking down the Champs-Elysées

We crossed the bridge, wandered through the Tuileries Garden and enjoyed our way down the Champs-Elysées. As we neared the end we realized we were hungry and made the quick decision to grab a pizza or two — and a beef bourguignon for me. It was probably one of the best meals I ate in France and I ate it standing up on the sidewalk as quick as I could.

The Arch de Triomphe

We reached the end of the Champs Elysées and realized we were starving and needed to eat before climbing the Arch de Triomphe for sunset views of the city. We checked out a few restaurants and ended up getting some pizza to go — and a beef bourguignon that I couldn’t resist. It was one of my best French meals and I ate it standing up in a hurry before rushing across the wildest round about in all of Paris.

The Champs-Elysées

It was so fun at the top of the Arch de Triomphe. We walked all four sides and then the group settled onto a side facing the Eiffel Tower and we just hung out and waited as the sun set. I, however, made the rounds taking pictures in every direction. I loved the capturing the sun as it descended below the horizon and then the moon brilliant on the opposite side. I especially loved taking picture of the traffic below and watching as a pink limo stopped perfectly at the top of my framed picture. Paris is just lovely and the Eiffel tour at sunset was so much fun. Love these married kids of mine! What a fun trip.

The full moon, the Champs-Elysées, the Sacred Heart Cathedral up in Mont Martre, the Louvre in the distance, the Eiffel tower all lit up! What a night!
