Split, Croatia

We drove a few hours to a little beach town south of Split and checked into our little apartment run by an older German Frau who spoke only German. Chris did a good job understanding and trying to communicate. He has his numbers down so everything went ok. Dinner was several miles up the road at a popular fast food place. The guys grabbed a gyro and I picked up a seasonal salad and we at them back on the balcony of our hotel over looking the sea as the sun started to set.

The boys were determined to go for a swim thinking that it must be warmer than the same Adriatic Sea in Dubrovnik and they say it was. It was a quick swim and then showers to get warm. Chris and I walked down the beach for several miles and enjoyed the sunset.

Old Town Split

We woke up and got going about 7:00am and had everything in the car by the time breakfast was laid out on the buffet overlooking the sea. It was no surprise that our German host put out eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, salami and bread for a German breakfast sandwich. We ate and quickly got in the car headed for Old Town Split.

The Riva is the seafront promenade lined with trees, flowers, flags and people enjoying a meal in the shade. I wish we could have walked longer!

Diocletian’s Palace

The Massive residence of a retired Roman emperor, now constituting fuly one-half of Split’s Old Town. Pictured below the boys are standing in Diocletian’s centerpiece - the history-drenched square called the Peristyle.

Just before 10:00 we walked to church. The ward was small and had six missionaries and a missionary couple serving as branch president.

Luke and Matt were asked to help pass the Sacrament, which I loved. It was just the two of them up there and they handled it great. Two missionaries spoke after they confirmed their newly baptized member and did a great job talking about how Satan tries to deceive us and then how to find real lasting joy. After church Luke texted the family… “We just finished church in the city called Split. Very small ward and me and Matt helped pass the sacrament. There was a new convert in church today sitting with the missionaries who got baptized this morning and we got to see him get confirmed during the meeting. It was very cool and I could just imagine how fun and exciting it was for the missionaries and it got me very excited to convert people in New Hampy. Yay!”
