G&G Walton’s Visit–Sirmione on Lake Garda
After getting up early and leaving the Villa we decided to stop by Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, and spend a few hours in the town of Sirmione. "Sirmione lives up to its special location on the four-mile peninsula at Lake Garda: a romantic, medieval gem with a distinctive flair. Narrow winding streets, old houses, a beautiful historic center and a mighty castle of the Scaliger family. "
As we were walking out to the peninsula to see the castle and the Roman ruins, Grandpa found a boat tour around the peninsula and we eagerly jumped on. It was the perfect way to see Sirmione.
Matthew wearing the Captain’s Hat!
It was so cool approaching the castle from the water. We entered the castle’s ‘marina’ via a tight pass under the bridge – which was fun.
A view from the castle from where we left the boat.
Most of the streets, alleys, and gateways in Europe are tight… Grandpa, Ryan and Emily had to stand flat against the wall to get out of the way of a passing car.
Love this one of Grandpa and the kids…
We love to climb towers for the view. Turned out to be a beautiful day.
So fun to be on this trip with my parents. What a great week.
We ate pizza by the shore and then wandered around to the tip of the peninsula before heading back to the cars.
The drove all the way from Simione to Heidelberg (71/2 hours) and it was a beautiful drive. Chris had to be back to church for Sunday meetings (new Bishop) and Ryan and Katie were heading up Frankfurt to be part of a big youth group to hear the prophet… President Monson, speak.
