Canadian/New England Cruise: Bar Harbor, Maine
We were tendered at this port, so we had to wait in line to go through customs (getting back to the United States) and then waited for our tender to sail into port. Another beautiful day with beautiful clear skies.
Pronounced like the locals say it…
We wandered through the cute streets and got on the free bus system that takes you to some of the stops in Acadia National Park. We got off at Sand Beach which is nestled in a small inlet between the granite mountains and rocky shores of Mount Desert Island. The sand is unusual here in this part of the coast – “thousands of years of pounding surf created a beach that is largely comprised of unique sand of shall fragments. The ocean temperature rarely exceeds 55 degrees in the summer and there is approximately one half cup of salt per gallon of ocean water.”
We hiked from Sand Beach along the coast towards Otter Point.
We drank Bar Harbor Blueberry Soda, explored Thunder Hole and Otter Point, and then after figuring out that Bus #4 was too full to pick us up, we headed back to Bar Harbor on Bus #3. It was bummer that we couldn’t see more of Acadia National Park. We need to come back here for a week!
Back in town we grabbed some ice cream – now a daily tradition -- and headed down to Grant Park to relax and walk along the Shore Path. It was definitely a relaxing afternoon.
Waiting for the tender to take us back to the ship.
Back on the ship Chris and I found my parents and laid out of the deck, swam a bit and then sat in the hot tub. We enjoyed our last dinner, went to the Marriage Game Show and then played our last night of games – of course finishing off all the chocolate covered strawberries in the library drink/snack station. By the third night the drink/snack attendant knew exactly what we wanted and loaded up a plate full as we started to play games every night. It was a great cruise.
